30: In the wake of the BN media's now familiar campaign to blow up
differences between PAS and DAP, leaders of both parties brushed aside
such differences as negligible, saying they are united on most issues.
In a joint statement issued by PAS president Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang and DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng, the parties said their differences could be only some five percent.
“Compare this to the 95 percent common views on freedom, fairness, truth, integrity and democracy for all,” they stressed.
For several days now, MCA daily The Star has been giving prominent coverage to the lamentation of a DAP state leader in Johor who has not been fielded by the party to contest in the coming polls.
Hadi and Lim reiterated that PR's manifesto is based on common consensus agreed by the coalition's top leadership.
“Let us be together to fight the wrongdoings and corruption of BN, which is the biggest problem to the country for over 50 years. We call on the people to support PR this May 5,” they said.
Prior to this, PAS secretary general Mustafa Ali said hudud, which BN's MCA has made its central issue in its uphill task to regain Chinese support, was not PR's agenda.
“If we want to implement it, we will do it democratically,” he said, echoing the argument that PAS, which is contesting a third of the total parliamentary seats, must get two-third majority support in the parliament to implement such laws.
